Dark Room

It's been dark inside this room for so long.
I don't know
for sure
when the lights went out,
but I know
it was many, many days ago.
It's amazing that we humans can adapt
the way we do.
Learning to walk in the dark,
fix food in the dark,
find a way around the room in the dark,
imagine in the dark.
Imagine what, you say?
Why, the world outside of the dark room, of course.
The world where days come and go
with nightfall, sunrise, dusk,
but not permanent darkness.
The world where the candles are lit
when the shadows appear
and most work gets done in the
broad,
open,
beautiful
day.
